Through this post, I am going to introduce one of the best mountain railways of India, which starts from Jalpaiguri to one of the most popular hill stations in India, Darjeeling. Darjeeling Himalayan Railway is listed in UNESCO World Heritage, and has been running for more than 250 years (from the period of British Empire in India). After the independence in 1947, this mountain railway is run by the Indian Railways.
Darjeeling Himalyan Railways
It is the oldest mountain train in India run on narrow gauge railway track from Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling via Siliguri, Kurseong and Ghum in West Bengal, one of the states of India. This rail track has total length of 88 KM. (55 miles) managed by Indian railways. This railway track was constructed by British Government in 1835 to the interest of East India Company during the British Empire in India. Darjeeling Himalayan Railways offers eye pleasing view of mountains and flourishing tea garden moving toward the Darjeeling form Siliguri. It is also called as Darjeeling Toy Train, listed in UNESCO Heritage. The whole rail track passes through 5 major and 500 minor bridges, and one can also have great view of Kanchenjunga mount near the Darjeeling.
Darjeeling Toy Train Services
There are three main train services are run by the Darjeeling Toy Train (DHR)
Daily Train Service: It is general train service from Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling which is run on historical diesel and steam locomotive, and also provides facility of first class and second class compartment facility.
Joy Rides: It is short trip service for passengers by Darjeeling Himalyan train that operates from Darjeeling to Ghum return, and Siliguri Junction to Sukna return.

Daily Train Service: It costs 247 rupees in first class and 47 rupees in second class.
Joy Rides: Joy rides train has total cost of 240rs INR with return.
